Human Nature

Ever since the fall of mankind, humans have committed sins.  No matter how big, everyone sins, and because we have certain moral standards (some by instinct and some pressured by society) of right and wrong, we know when we sin.  Since we know that sin is commonly looked down upon, and we have the knowledge of our own sin, it is easy to make the decision to hide sin from others. It is human nature to hide sins from others to prevent being looked down on. However, there are many verse in the bible that direct us to confess and not hide our sins.

"If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness" - 1 John 1:9

"Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working." -James 5:16

"Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ."  -Galatians 6:2

These verses explain that not only confessing your sins, but accepting and forgiving others sins, is asked of us.  If more people were open to forgiving others just as they would want ot be forgiven, then maybe more people would confess. But in today's society, where people are put down and judged heavily for sinning, the most basic human reaction is to close up and hide our sins.

  1. I agree with this completely. Because of our judgmental society, people are definitely scared to confess.
